Arena Guidelines & Policies
Prior to your visit to the Atlantic Union Bank Center, please review the following guidelines and policies. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Athletic Ticket Office at 540-568-3853.
Coming to a basketball game? Please call our hotline at 540-568-4353 with any questions or concerns. The hotline will open two (2) hours prior to tip off on basketball game days.
ATM
There are no ATMs inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
Banners, Posters and Signs
Banners, posters, and signs are welcome inside any JMU athletic facility.
In order to guarantee the best game day experience of other patrons, fans should adhere to the following guidelines:
- Size should not exceed 24 by 36 inches.
- Should be individually hand held (by one person only).
- Banners, posters, and signs should not contain any advertising, political or commercial message, derogatory or offensive language/logos.
- Banners, posters, and signs should not be affixed to sticks, poles, or other objects for support.
- Banners, posters, and signs should be created before entering the Atlantic Union Bank Center. Wet paint, loose glitter, etc. are prohibited inside the AUBC.
- Content of the banners, posters and signs should comply with all Sun Belt Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Banners, posters and signs are not to be affixed to any part of the athletic facility without prior approval.
Cameras and Video Equipment
- Still cameras and photography is permitted for JMU basketball games.
- Guests may not interfere with access ways, aisles or other guests' enjoyment of the game for the purpose of photography or other activities. Event staff may designate areas where photography is or is not allowed.
- Tripods are prohibited inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center. Media wishing to bring additional equipment to a basketball game must contact JMU athletics communications for more information.
- Video cameras are not permitted.
Clear Bags
To further enhance the security screening process at the Atlantic Union Bank Center, JMU Athletics implemented a clear bag policy. Fans are asked to adhere to the policy by either leaving all prohibited, non-clear bags at home or in their vehicles, or by using the following guidelines:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag
- Small clutch purse, with or without strap or handle that do not exceed 4.5" x 6.5"
- An exception will be made for medically necessary items and diaper bags with the presence of a child after proper inspection at a designated entrance
Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to: non-clear purses, wallets or clutches larger than 4.5" x 6.5", coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.
Clear bags are on sale now at the JMU Bookstore.
Seat cushions and seat backs are permitted as long as they do not have pockets and are not in a carrying bag, are no wider than 18" and do not have armrests. Items needed for small children must be in a clear bag that meets the stated dimensions.
Sportsmanship / Conduct
The Atlantic Union Bank Center and James Madison University are committed to creating a welcoming, respectful environment for all guests. We ask that everyone in attendance treat performers, players, officials, staff, and fellow patrons with courtesy and respect.
Behavior such as taunting, insults, or disruptive language will not be tolerated. This includes any speech or actions that are racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise inappropriate.

Emergency Evacuation Procedure
- If you have an emergency while at the Atlantic Union Bank Center:
- Find the nearest usher or event staff personnel
- Find a public safety officer. They will be located throughout the venue.
- Call the JMU Emergency Response Number: 540-568-6911
- In the case of a necessary evacuation:
- Audible and visual alerts will occur throughout the building.
- Follow instructions provided and by public safety officers and event staff.
- Guests should leave the building via the closest exit which may be different from where you entered.
- Guest are asked to move away from the building and return to their cars for further instructions.
Entrances and Entry Policies
- Doors will open 1 hour prior to advertised tip off time for basketball games (Exceptions may apply).
- Guests may use the Plaza or Champions entrance at the Atlantic Union Bank Center with a valid ticket.
- Re-entry is not allowed at the Atlantic Union Bank Center. Guest leaving the building may not re-enter.
- Anyone entering the Atlantic Union Bank Center will be subject to screening via walk-through metal detection devises. Metal detection will be in place at both the Plaza and Champions entrances. For guests who are unable to utilize walk-through metal detectors, hand-held metal detectors will be used.
- NOTE: In most scenarios, patrons may leave their jacket, shoes and belt and keep keys, cell phone, and wallets in their pockets. Only large metal items must be removed.
- The Atlantic Union Bank Center has also instituted a clear bag policy for basketball games. Please see the Clear Bag section above for details.

First Aid
- The Atlantic Union Bank Center is equipped with a First Aid room for Guests.
- The First Aid room is located behind section 111 on the main concourse
- First Aid Personnel are available throughout the venue and can accommodate emergencies.
- First aid assistance for a non-emergency situations may find the nearest usher or call the game day hotline at 540-568-4381.
- In the case of an emergency:
- Find the nearest usher or event staff personnel
- Find a public safety officer. They will be located throughout the venue.
- Call the JMU Emergency Response Number: 540-568-6911
Game Programs
JMU basketball game information will be available at the program stands or JMU Athletics marketing tables, located at each entrance.
Guest Assistance
Guests can call or text 540-568-4381 with any questions or concerns. The hotline will be open starting two (2) hours prior to tip off on game days.
Guest Services
For any questions, concerns, or assistance, please visit the Guest Services booths inside the Plaza entrance.
Information regarding game day promotions and lost and found items will be available at the Guest Services booths during the game. Please contact (540) 568-8810, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to locate a lost and found item following the game.
Merchandise
Officially licensed JMU merchandise is available for purchase at the Team Store, located behind section 102 and nearest the Plaza entrance. Team store hours may vary depending on game dates and times.
Portable Seat Cushions
- Most of the seating in the Atlantic Union Bank Center are equipped with seatbacks, armrests and drink holders.
- Portable seat cushions are permitted in sections 110, 111 and 112 provided they are no wider than 18 inches in width and do not have armrests. Any cushion not meeting these standards may not be used.
Prohibited Actions and Items
The following actions are prohibited:
- No re-entry
- No smoking or use of tobacco products including smokeless varieties such as electronic cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vapor cigarettes
- No solicitation or distribution of handouts
- No throwing of any objects
- The use of umbrellas
- The use of any wheeled mobility devise for purposes other than medical reasons is prohibited. Examples include skate boards, scooters, bicycles, roller blades, roller shoes, etc.
The following items are prohibited:
- Alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, weapons, fireworks
- Animals
- Bags that do not adhere to the clear bag policy and/or larger than 12"x12"x6"
- Coolers
- Glass and metal containers
- Noise makers and other devices that impede the game
- Outside food and beverages
- Obscene or indecent clothing, signage, or language
- Strollers (May be left at Guest Services)
- Video cameras, monopods, tripods
- Wheelies, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, bicycles, roller blades
Restrooms
Guest restrooms are located all around the Atlantic Union Bank Center on the concourse level.
Smoking Policy
In accordance with University Policy 1111, smoking is not allowed in the Atlantic Union Bank Center. This includes smokeless varieties such as electronic cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vapor cigarettes.
Strollers
- Strollers are permitted; however guest are encouraged to only bring a stroller if necessary.
- Strollers brought into the Atlantic Union Bank Center must be left at Guest Services near Plaza Entrance and cannot be taken to the seating areas.
- JMU does not accept responsibility for any lost or broken strollers
Venue Re-Entry
Re-entry is not allowed inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
